Daicon Malaysia 2009

part 2 lagu pepapipopu

Ini part kedua dalam 6 part lagu projek pepapipopu. Sebenarnye ni gabungan part 2, 3 & 4. ingat nak buat sikit2 jadi tersambung pulak. part terakhir dalam animation ni belum siap lagi. kena draw arnab & monyet plak.

Love the Anime Studio camera pan & zoom! Setel banyak masalah aku.

Kepada yang mencari part 1, memang xde pun. aku kena edit balik part 1 baru masukkan kat youtube.

I used to write in lowyat about the usage of low id trick to get many Asian (or any other popular) movies using emule. I think it was 1-2 year ago.

In the old days before p2p become mainstream, which later throttled heavily by ISP, emule is the best network to grab anything that already expired on bittorrent, be it no longer available or no longer seeded. I also called ed2k network as “poor man’s binaries”. It practically share everything; from popular movies to rare applications to games.

However, there is a catch; you need to have and maintain High ID to be allowed to have descent download speed. Download might took days or weeks before completion, but once you maintain our sharing & upload then things start to get interesting. Download speed increasing, completion gets better and you start addicted to it.

Yet emule is still considered as an elite p2p app that only few could  tolerate (at least here in Malaysia).

However, since p2p become heavy burden to ISP thanks(?) to global bittorrent boom, packet inspection & bandwith shaping were being  introduced to cater the problem (simple greedy solutions instead of  upgrading their network).

and suddenly emule is dead

Over the years, emule and ed2k network are still very tempting with their vast collection of asian dvd-rips. I’ve tried many emule variation that offer tweaks and minor upgrade that tackle leeching issue but none of these fix the throttle problem. The low download speed is still the major problem. The introduction of obfuscation feature are highly welcomed and praised but still failed to penetrate the heavy throttling by ISP.

Then came tweaked emule from China called EasyMule that add something clever (I don’t really know the complexities of the function, how they’e embedded or the origin of the tweaks though..). It enables Low ID users behind firewall or closed port to communicate with each other directly allowing them to transfer files.

The beauty of this emule Low ID transfers are the fact that, somehow, they’re immune to ISP throttle or shaping.

Hence the answer to slow downloads are by blocking the connection ports intentionally, instead of opening them as suggested. Meaning, Low ID’s are better in this case.

The method are not quite foolproof though, since them amount of Easymule users are mainly from asian countries. You need the same client (at least in my knowledge) to perform the miracle of low id trasfer.

However, if you only interested in the large amount asian dvd-rips shared amongs easymule users, then the late adoption from popular clients might not be the issue.

Is this a call for standard feature all emule clients? You bet.

3 second walkcycle test

There it goes.. 3 second walk cycle test using Anime Studio Pro. It took me 2 days to understand how things work in this software. I can see the potential though. It just needs what any good animation needs, lots of hard work. I still think drawing in XaraX still a better option. but I’ve got the hang of how I should use Anime Studio unique no bezier vector approaches.

Hmm.. deadline is near.

I’ve been sketching a few design for my animation project due this April. Hopefully there will be new sketch & test animation soon.

After hesitating for a year, I finally sign up for facebook today.

A lot of my former collegue & old boys of SMVKK are gathering there. Sigh.. is this a good or bad idea? since I can’t berely keep my myspace anymore.

Sementara tu aku backup dulu Mysql database.

My friend’s little brother came to me and ask for Ares installer. He said that he downloaded Ares before and they wanted to charge him to use the service at regular basis.

My response was; bullshit! Ares never charge anyone. It’s a free software and open source.

Then I hit the net and found out exactly what he’s complaining about. The regular Ares are no longer updated. Since then the connection server has been taken down or simply obselete. The only choice for many others are to download one of those Ares clones. Yes Ares’ clones. Since the project was opensource, people has taken the advantage to update the program’s connection and charge people for the updated code.

So I tried this method. Install one of those ares clone, in my case Ares Vista;

  1. Let it connect
  2. Test download 1 or 2 songs
  3. Close it
  4. Open Windows Explorer
  5. Open Tools, Folder & Options..
  6. View..
  7. Tick Show Hidden Files & Folder
  8. OK
  9. Go to C:
  10. Document & Settings
  11. Select current user (your account name)
  12. Local Settings
  13. Application Data
  14. Ares Vista (or something similar)
  15. Copy the “Data” folder
  16. Paste it somewhere in your disk
  17. Download & install original Ares
  18. Install as usual & let it run (make sure you “unblock” it whan prompted by windows firewall)
  19. Close down Ares, make sure it really closed down by righclicking the ares icon in the taskbar, near the clock & choose exit.
  20. Copy the “data” folder that we saved previously
  21. Repeat step 9-13
  22. Open Ares folder and paste “data” in there replacing the original “data” folder.
  23. Relaunch Ares & search the most popular & common artist, preferably in our own country.
  24. Magically, it will list the song
  25. Try download some of the popular song.
  26. After that, you will be able to use Ares & connected automatically everytime.

The method described above are meant for XP only. Vista’s user might wanna look at: C:\Users\user account name\AppData\Local\Ares

Alternatively, you can download my “data” folder here: Mirrror 1, Mirror 2, Mirror 3

Yesterday, out of curiosity.. & 2 days of usenet account trial, I decided to take the new leaked Windows 7 beta to a test. It’s beta yes.. and since I found out last year that Vista is soooo bloated to run on my mid dual core machine, the news & claims about the lightness of Win7 gave me a push.

And it didn’t disapoint me. Windows 7 is running right now as I’m writing this, here in my machine with aero theme turned on as default. My rig, a low end dual core Intel 2.0 and 1.5 gig ram minus 256 of ram deals with this new version of windows like a horse on steroid.. Well I might’ve exaggerate a lil bit but Win7 is my new toy at the moment.

As of beta, it has a few hiccups here and there, at first.. and I did crash it with video directshow with nvidia xp drivers. It also failed to respond to end an unresponsive task (Utorrent 1.9 beta, well.. beta meets beta) but what the heck? It’s faster than Vista and almost as fast as xp.

It did surprisingly run most of my software including the aging but fabulos Abilon rss reader. Most of the time, the compatibility mode save the situation. I was under the impression that Vista are bloated cause it’s trying to save compatibility with older programs. Some of the my common programs that runs well are;

1. Maxthon 1.6.3 ( my fav Maxthon version)

2. Illustrator 9 (Aero revert to basic theme but I can live with that)

3.  XaraX 4 (I can’t live without this powerfull vector app)

4. The Font Thing 0.80 (Very old app, back to 1999 – still kicking)
